Valley Printing was founded by Mr. William Turner in 1950 and operated out of a small house on 55 Victoria Street, which is the same premises we are in today (although has expanded a bit since then…) using one Miehle Vertical flatbed letterpress machine.

In 1969 Theo Mallo was headhunted by William and employed as General Manager of Valley Print. He later took over the company in 1981 when William retired. The company has since stayed in the Mallo family, which is now run by Theo’s son – Wayne Mallo, who joined the company in 1982.

Wayne has an innovative spirit and has encouraged Valley Print to take on a few firsts – setting trends in the New Zealand printing industry. In 2000 Valley became the first traditional printing company in Wellington to invest in a high quality digital printing press, paving the way for digital acceptance. In 2007, Valley bought a Kodak CTP machine and became the first printer in New Zealand to start using chemical free printing plates.

We now run four letterpress machines – we have two platen and two cylinder presses, supported by two Ricoh digital machines, and three offset machines – a 1-colour, 2-colour and 5-colour — growing from our humble beginnings — and have since expanded into the property next door, number 57. Although we have built a bigger premises, the old building at number 55 is still visible – a nice piece of nostalgia to remind us of our roots.

Our history and heritage still run deep today in everything we do – we love the quality and depth traditional letterpress printing provides, but can now build on this with new printing techniques resulting in work that is different, care focused and unique. We love trying new things, testing the boundaries and creating printed collateral that makes you look twice and exceeds expectations — some of which are nationally recognised with numerous awards that we are humbly proud of.

If you’re after a print partner that cares and produces results that are next level, we’re the company for you.

A bit of old, mixed with a bit of new...

LETTERPRESS
We are one of the very few letterpress printers in Wellington. We have a total of 4 very special Heidelberg presses — 2x Heidelberg Platen presses which are used for foil stamping, letterpress printing & embossing and 2x Heidelberg Cylinder presses used for die-cutting, embossing and creasing. We can print anything from business cards to wedding stationery through to die-cutting presentation folders.

OFFSET
We run three offset machines — a 5-colour SRA3 Heidelberg Speedmaster 52, a 2-colour SRA2 Roland 202 & a 1-colour Heidelberg GTO. These machines are great for bigger print runs of promotional collateral including posters up to A2, brochures & catalogues, NCR carbonless books, corporate stationery requiring PMS colours and packaging.

DIGITAL
Our two Ricoh digital machines work seamlessly with our offset and letterpress machines. We can even print White and Clear ink digitally as well as sizes up to 330x700mm meaning we can put larger book covers and presentation folders through this machine which are normally not possible with digital printing.
